Why Wellbeing Matters in Business
- Founders: Burnout is one of the leading causes of business failure. You need to protect your energy to lead effectively.
- Employees: Staff who feel valued and supported are more productive, loyal, and creative.
- Customers & Community: A balanced, ethical business is more likely to deliver real care and long-term value.
Neglecting wellbeing doesn’t just harm individuals — it undermines the sustainability of the whole enterprise.
The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life is a tool that helps you reflect on how balanced and satisfied you feel across key areas of your life. It gives you a “snapshot” of your wellbeing right now and helps you see where you may need to focus more energy.
- Work / Career
- Health
- Family & Relationships
- Fun & Leisure
- Finances
- Personal Growth
- Contribution / Community
How to use it:
- Score each area from 1 (poor) to 10 (excellent).
- Join the dots around the wheel.
- Reflect: Is your wheel smooth (balanced) or bumpy (imbalanced)?
Strategies for Better Balance
- Set Boundaries: Define work hours and stick to them.
- Prioritise Health: Schedule rest, exercise, or mindfulness as seriously as meetings.
- Support Staff Wellbeing: Fair pay, flexibility, inclusive culture.
- Embed Wellbeing into Services: Ensure your product or service genuinely benefits your customers.
- Check In Regularly: Use tools like the Wheel of Life monthly to see where you’re slipping.
Activity: Look at the exercise file for the wheel of life diagram and try filling it in. Reflect on it and see if any corrective actions are require
